Is Moringa Safe for Kids

Moringa oleifera (moringa) helps kids thrive by providing them with a well-rounded array of vitamins, minerals, and nutrients. Moringa safely and naturally boosts energy, improves digestion and overall gut health, reduces stress, relieves allergies, and is a reliable source of nutrition for kids in parts of the world where food and other resources may be scarce.

The nutrient-rich leaves of the moringa tree helps kids meet their daily dietary requirements. While there are many Moringa Vinga infusions to consider, our  Elderberry & Holy Basil infusion is especially a big hit with kiddos. In addition to supporting a healthy immune system through the combining of moringa leaves with elderberries, it also supports stress response with holy basil, and the raw and unfiltered apple cider vinegar can be an excellent source of pre and probiotics. The Elderberry & Holy Basil infusion is a nutritional powerhouse that nourishes growing children.

Moringa Benefits for Children

Good nutrition is essential to health for everyone, and kids are no exception. Moringa is a powerful superfood because it can fulfill – and in some cases surpass – most of the basic dietary requirements for a growing child.

While all parts of the moringa tree are chocked full of nutrition, the leaves are loaded with vitamins, minerals, and other phytochemicals essential to helping kids grow and develop into healthy adults. Moringa leaves are also high in antioxidants and antimicrobial agents. They decrease inflammation and can help manage chronic pain and reduce the symptoms of certain health conditions, such as diabetes.

Because moringa leaves have a high nutritional value, regular consumption can help kids improve their focus, increase energy, relieve stress, improve gut health, and reduce digestive problems. Kids may even find that their eye health and vision improve, as moringa leaves are very high in vitamin A. Moringa leaves also nourish the skin and hair and may speed up the healing of cuts and scrapes.

Another function of moringa leaves is that they can balance a child’s metabolism. While they help burn excess fat and calories in overweight children, moringa leaves provide nourishment to underweight children struggling with lack of food and malnutrition. One study  describes how extracts from the moringa leaves are commonly used to treat malnutrition and enhance the breast milk of nursing mothers. Children in this study thrived, and the milk of nursing mothers was found to significantly increase its nutritional content. According to our post on Taking Moringa Before and After Pregnancy, Moringa leaves help* newborns to maintain a healthy weight and length and can prevent malnutrition.

Moringa leaves can be prepared in a variety of ways. They can be eaten fresh, cooked, or stored as dried powder for long periods without refrigeration and still retain their nutritional value. The versatility of moringa leaves is especially beneficial for children in areas with limited resources.

A 100 g serving of fresh moringa leaves can provide 440 mg of calcium, as opposed to only 300-400 mg found in 8 ounces of milk. Moringa leaves are high in zinc, containing 0.85 mg. Zinc benefits the immune system and is also necessary for the synthesis of DNA and RNA. Moringa leaves are rich in amino acids, the building blocks for protein.

Moringa leaf is high in iron, containing about 25 times more iron than spinach. Because moringa is high in iron, it effectively treats and prevents anemia, a serious condition that causes fatigue and shortness of breath. Anemia is commonly caused by iron deficiency and affects many children under the age of two, especially in developing countries.   One study  researched the effects of supplementation of moringa leaf powder in children under two and found that consumption of moringa leaf powder significantly reduced anemia. No adverse side effects were reported.

Is Moringa Safe for Children?

Moringa leaves are very safe for children to consume and are used to supplement nutrition for malnourished children in developing countries. The leaves are also used to enhance the   nutrition of pregnant and nursing mothers  and benefit their growing babies.

Pregnant mothers often complain of fatigue. Moringa helps increase their energy without caffeine or other stimulants and nourishes the blood by increasing the amount of hemoglobin. Hemoglobin transports oxygen and improves energy levels and respiration.

Elderberries Can Boost the Immune System

Elderberries are commonly used to support the immune system. Safe for most kids, elderberries help prevent and treat both viral and bacterial infections. One study  found that supplementation of elderberry extract decreased symptoms and reduced the duration of cold and flu-like disorders by approximately two days.

Elderberries are so powerful in combating respiratory problems because they contain anthocyanins. Anthocyanins are flavonoids that regulate the immune system and reduce inflammation. They do this by attaching to viral glycoproteins that allow viruses to enter the body, essentially preventing an infection.

Another reason that elderberries are so great for kids is that they are rich in nutrients and fiber. They have high amounts of vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, B9, C, and E, and they also contain trace elements such as copper, zinc, and iron. Elderberries are rich in essential minerals such as potassium, calcium, and magnesium. They contain phytochemicals that further optimize health and wellness, such as carotenoids, phytosterols, and polyphenols.

Holy Basil – an All-Around “Powerhouse” Herb for Children

Holy basil, or tulsi, is an Ayurvedic herb that is safe and effective in boosting a child’s immune system. In addition to being rich in vitamins and nutrients, holy basil is high in the antioxidant glutathione. Glutathione is great for kids because it helps build and repair tissues, make proteins, and boost the immune system.

SOME OF THE FUNCTIONS OF HOLY BASIL:

• Antimicrobial, antibacterial, antifungal, antiprotozoal, antiparasitic, and antimalarial activities
• Beneficial to the skin and good for the complexion, soothing skin disorders, and may enhance wound healing
• It improves dental health and is good for teeth

Apple Cider Vinegar Benefits Children

Apple cider vinegar is a powerful addition to any diet. Kids especially benefit from apple cider vinegar because it increases overall wellness by promoting gut health and facilitating digestion. When digestion is good and the gastrointestinal tract is healthy, children’s immune systems function better. Also, because it helps nourish the gut, regular consumption of apple cider vinegar can help manage weight and regulate metabolism.

Apple cider vinegar is also good for the skin. Problems like eczema and dandruff can drastically improve when the GI tract is healthy and digestion flows smoothly. When applied topically, apple cider vinegar can help soothe sunburn, relieve itchy and painful insect bites, and act as an overall disinfectant.

Some kids may find apple cider vinegar to be too potent when consumed on its own. This problem can easily be remedied by mixing apple cider vinegar with other ingredients. Moringa Vinga provides all the power of apple cider vinegar with less of the bite by combining it with moringa leaves and other herbs such as elderberries and holy basil. Because it’s mixed with other ingredients, most kids should be able to consume the apple cider vinegar in the infusion without any problems.

Moringa Vinga also shares some fun recipes to jazz up their infusions. Kids can enjoy all the benefits of Moringa Vinga in a delicious   fizzy mocktail, yummy   elderberry gummies, and refreshing   fruit pops.
